Teachers’ Perceptions on Migratory Diversity in Schools in Mendoza, Argentina

Abstract

The paper addresses the issue of migratory diversity in Argentine schools, particularly the case of the province of Mendoza. As such, we analyze the results of a series of interviews with teachers as part of a larger scientific-technological research project financed by the University of Buenos Aires and following a line of work based on the concept of social representation developed by authors such as Jodelet and Moscovici. One of the main results is that the interviewees expressed the tensions that the homogenizing and assimilationist role historically assigned to the school and the current mandate of “educating in diversity”, which is typical of the multi-cultural stage of recent decades, brings to their daily work
