Abstract
Beyond the polarization between a general and a specific teaching method, it reflects about the former and the developments and the strategies of the latter are interrelated or converge into the teaching of literature. It is argued that a teacher must not only know their disciplinary field, but also have general educational criteria in order to have a series of benchmarks and educational customs. The author takes up seven major general teaching concepts that are the foundation for their purpose of outlining practical ways of teaching. They use the analogy of sailors and rowers as a way to help understand the loan of knowledge
