Abstract

This paper aims to explore the limitations and possibilities of the concepts training-competition based on the specific case of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, an institution that in the late nineties fell into a deep crisis of direction (traditionalist-modernist) where various interpretations about these concepts converged. Here we present two sections linked by a common theme: the conjunction training-competition through a specific interpretation of the education within a humanistic framework. These sections are: 1) conceptual inquiry to delimit the meaning of training- competition in the semantic spectrum displayed by the concept of university; and 2) approaches to outline some options for the use of competencies in university training.
