Abstract
The article focuses on how to use the critical reading of articles of opinion to promote the formation of critical readers in secondary education, due to the evidence found in some educational institutions that press is not frequently used as a teaching strategy for reading. Teachers, who use press in the classroom, do this to make students familiar with informational texts, but not with more complex news items, such as articles of opinion; thus, the possibility to approach the diversity of voices and viewpoints on various issues of the national and international reality is left out of the classroom.
