Abstract

This article explores the educational aspects of Haitian voodoo, reflecting on elements such as the role of the “teacher”–apprentice relationship, the role of collective learning and the process of oral transmission of knowledge. This characterization allows us to observe the qualities of this religion and its strengths in building and maintaining the social fabric. The result is an exercise in correcting some of the mistaken assumptions going around about voodoo.
