Abstract

Writing mediated by new technologies is a vernacular practice accepted by young people because the net offers them authentic environments to improve ties, develops collaborative work and provides resources that enable the creation of meaningful knowledge. Therefore, virtual writing becomes a support to independent learning that facilitates the production of texts, since these formats make new ways of writing viable. This investigation stresses the importance of chat speak as a new discursive “genre” to introduce reflection on ICT and curriculum at schools, as the new paradigm is virtual and schools should teach young men and women to be proficient in the use of digital tools to manage and create knowledge.
