Abstract
<p>This article presents the results of the research project Learning styles of students at the Faculty of Education of the Institución Universitaria Cesmag, which aimed to characterize the motivational processes and expectations of students according to their learning styles. The methodology is based on qualitative research, using the historical-hermeneutic approach as well as ethnographic method; participant observation and focus groups were conducted, and the collected data was examined using the categorical analysis technique. The study evidenced the importance of affective traits as determinants of socio-cognitive preparation regarding learning objectives and tasks; similarly, it identified motivational factors and student expectations. It was found that although students may have dominant traits in a specific style, this involves affective traits from other styles too.</p>
