Written Academic Culture and its Necessary Articulation with Linguistic Variation

Abstract

This article starts from the general aspects that characterize the teaching and research trends of recent years about reading and writing in higher education, later to focus on the epistemic function of written academic culture, linguistic variation and the points of convergence between the two. Thus, we seek to emphasize the need for a transformation in education that addresses the importance of academic literacy to achieve a positive impact on contemporary Latin American society, characterized by multiculturalism and for joining globalization.
